Kids' Zone Info
What is special about the Kids' Zone?1- The content is age-appropriate for K-6 2- It is self-contained When your students first come to the website, they will see our homepage, as you did. (This is the page with the map of the world.) When they click on Latin America or Africa or the Middle East to check out the Trek, they can go to the Kids' Zone by clicking on the treehouse in the upper right corner. (There is no Kids' Zone for out pilot trek we did to Mexico.) There will always be a kids' version of one or two of the stories (shorter, with bigger text, large pictures, and age-appropriate vocabulary). There is also a special Time Machine for the kids that only accesses other Kids Zone stories. We are developing a special discussion board just for the younger students, but until then just assume it will be the same one as for the older students. Once your students enter the Kids' Zone, all of the major links provided will keep them within the Kids Zone. This way they won't get lost or frustrated with the much larger and complex section for older students. The only link your students can use to get out of the Kids' Zone is "Home," which will take them back to the homepage, at which point they may enter the Latin America section and opt not to click on the treehouse. Many teachers have successfully used non-Kids' Version stories with K-6 students, and you should feel free to direct them to such stories as you feel is appropriate. But now you have an easy way to aim them at what you KNOW will be accessible for them, without them getting lost (well, no guarantees!...). Good luck, and always feel free to contact us with feedback! Click here if you'd like to check out the most recent Kids' Zone right now!
