Opportunities to Participate There are many opportunities for people to become involved in The Odyssey. Below are just a few of the ways you, your organization or business can become involved prior to the team's departure or during the two-year trek. Contact the Odyssey at the e-mail address below if you are interested or if you have suggestions. Thanks! AS AN INDIVIDUAL OR CORPORATE SPONSOR : We've pledged our committment to bring the cultures of the world and important social issues of the time to all students. In order to execute our program effectively, we are soliciting donations in the form of monetary assistance, technical equipment, travel supplies, and persons able to offer technical advice. Please visit our Sponsors page to learn how you can contribute to The Odyssey and bring the wonder of the modern world to students across America. AS A TEAM MEMBER: There is still a chance for someone to slip onto the actual World Trek Team. While The World Trek Team is nearly complete, we are still accepting resumes of interested people who can round out the team. To learn how to become a member, visit our Team Applications page. AS AN EDUCATOR: We are assembling a group of talented teachers to provide guidance, support and general feedback to make The Odyssey an effective teaching tool for the classroom. If you would like to participate in our program, or are curious as to how The Odyssey will enhance your teaching goals, please visit the Odyssey Teacher Site. OTHER WAYS TO HELP:
The Odyssey needs interns! We are
looking for ten or eleven enthusiastic people to join our stateside team in
San Francisco. We need energetic minds to join
one of four teams. If you have a sense of adventure and want to contribute
your talents to the ongoing development of The Odyssey, we'd love to have
you as part of our stateside team.
Please contact us to learn more about how you can get involved with this
innovative project.
As a Development Department Intern.
As a Media and Marketing Intern.
As an Education Program Intern.
As a Web Team Intern.
LOGISTICS: Before and during The Odyssey many logistical questions will arise, and people outside the team will play a crucial role coordinating the logistics. For example - researching current political situations in the various countries to be traveled; keeping up-to-date on the visa and immunization requirements of different countries; coordinating the team's admittance to countries with the communications equipment, etc. SITE INFORMATION AND CONTACTS: Prior to departure The Odyssey will need to establish contacts (organizations or individuals) in each of the ten destination sites. This will be necessary to facilitate the service work as well as to further the individual study projects of the team members. If you know of any grassroots programs or people doing good work in or near any of the destination cities, or are aware of people or centers who could facilitate The Odyssey's cultural studies, please let us know. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: We will be developing our own curriculum based on themes central to the world trek, service, and cultural awareness and appreciation. We will also be reaching out to teachers and organizations with similar curriculum already developed to partner with us to utilize such materials on the Odyssey site. Please contact us if you can assist, or know of an individual or institution that can. SCHOOL OUTREACH/SUPPORT: We will be developing national and international networks of people to outreach to and support local schools, particularly disadvantaged schools. If you would like to be one of our representatives to liaison with specific schools to get teachers involved and/or to possibly provide technical assistance to teachers with little or no Internet/computer use experience, please contact us and we will provide you with all the necessary information.
