Have you ever served food to people in a homeless shelter? Maybe you've been part of a search party for a lost dog. Maybe you've helped clean up your city park. If you've done any of these things, guess what? You're a volunteer!
Volunteers are regular people who do things not because they have to, but because they want to. They see something they think could be a little better if they helped out, and they jump right in!
Do you know any volunteers? How about us? We all signed up for the Trek to teach you about places far, far away. We don't get paid, but we love it! And we've met lots of other volunteers who love what they do, too.
Like our friend Okan, who got up in the middle of the night to drive for hours to help people hurt by an earthquake in Turkey. And Konstantin, who flew all the way from America to help children whose homes were ruined. And our friend Ezgi, who was nice enough to translate for us when we visited a school.
Volunteers do all different kinds of things. Pick something you think could be a little better, and give it a go! You'll be happy you did!
