Personal Journal - Por fin! Meeting with Silvia and Shawn
Finally, Shawn and I met with Silvia over a meal of comida Mexicana-typical Mexican food: tamales, chicken (pollo) and a plate of fresh fruit like papayas, canteloupe, and watermelon. I also tried a Mexican sweet. Turns out their candy has plenty of sugar, but they slip in some chilis too! The surprise of the hot with the sweet was quite unexpected! Que bueno!
Silvia and I took the pesero, or microbus, to my AFS home from the Taxquena Metro station (on the Linea Azul, or Blue Line). Did you know that Mexico City's metro has been featured in a few films, like Total Recall? And most recently, Romeo and Juliet - the modern version with Leonardo di Caprio and Claire Danes - was filmed here in Mexico City since they have such an incredible blend of old and new.

We laughed and talked for a few hours, then headed to Garibaldi Square, (or Plaza de Garibaldi,) to hear some mariachi music before heading home to get some rest since we were planning to travel a lot the next day. It was so good that we are going to share what we saw and more in one of next week’s updates!
