It is less than one week before The Odyssey departs and there is still so much to get done that the reality that we are really leaving still hasn't fully dawned on me. I am so filled with mixed emotions about this adventure that it is impossible to express them all. Mostly I feel excitment at the prospect of travelling around the world, but I also feel sad to be leaving my home and friends, and very glad to be going with a great bunch of new friends.
There are also a number of fears and hopes that I feel. I keep thinking what if I get sick, or what if all our stuff gets stolen, what if we can't connect to the Internet. I am really looking forward to having a host family and getting to meet the people of distant lands. I thrive on adventure and this is undoubtedly the greatest adventure that I have ever embarked on.
The things I will miss most about leaving are: my health food stores, my cat, my friends and my apartment. The things I am looking forward to the most are meeting new friends, learning Spanish, being immersed in indigenous cultures, and learning more about cultural issues. Being on the Mexico Trek really gave me a feel for what the World Trek will be like. We experienced many of the problems and disappointments I expect to encounter on the Trek like getting sick and losing or breaking expensive equipment. Having that experience has really boosted my confidence in the trek though, because I know now with dedication and teamwork we can overcome any obstacle to make this project work. Here we go...
Jamila - Ready for the Road!
Monica - Picking up where we left off
Kavitha - Two Years Ago and Ahead
Klaus - World Trek is Go!
