Odyssey Overview
The Treks:
The Odyssey successfully completed its pilot trek to Mexico, in the Fall of 1998.
This set the stage for the World Trek, which began in January of 1999. It is being conducted in the following four stages:
Spring 1999 - Latin America Antigua, Guatemala - Cuzco, Peru
Fall 1999 - Africa Harare, Zimbabwe - Bamako, Mali - Cairo, Egypt
Spring 2000 - The Middle East
Jerusalem, Israel - Istanbul, Turkey - Tehran, Iran
Fall 2000 - India to China
New Delhi, India - Xian, China
The Educational Itinerary:
- The Odyssey relates directly to National Educational Standards to help teachers bring their subject matter to life. If teachers cover Aztec culture, so do we. But we visit the ruins, attend ceremonies, talk with experts, and let students chat with the locals!
- We also explore critical global themes such "The Environment and Development," "Globalization,"and "Poverty," topics not always sufficiently addressed in traditional curriculum.
- Our multimedia content, including photos, video and sound, as well as the interactivity of the chats, e-mail, and discussion boards, help to engage students with different learning styles and intelligences.
- The Odyssey also brings special guests into the classroom, the kind of "guest speakers" not usually available. The Odyssey has interviewed three Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, the former Presidents of Zimbabwe and Costa Rica, among others.

Supporting Teachers:
Teachers have their own "Teacher Zone" on the website. For each of the team updates there is a corresponding Teacher Guide that summarizes the content and has suggestions for use. For each site the team visits and each of the themes they cover, there are also lessons for teachers to further develop those topics when not on-line.
The site is free for anyone to use, anytime, anywhere (with Internet access), something very important to teachers who all too often these days have to buy their own photocopy paper and chalk! And everything we post is archived, so teachers can use the content when it
Bringing it all together:
The Odyssey is a non-profit 510(c)(3) corporation. We are able to deliver this quality program free-of-charge to teachers thanks to donations from individuals and sponsorships from businesses and organizations. Please help us - your generosity will make a difference!
